Average burn time is approximately 1.5–2 hours depending on weather and field conditions. Burn times of up to approximately 3 hours have been achieved when used with the First Wind™ Smoke Stack™ System.

Does the Smoke Stack™ increase burn duration?

Yes. The Smoke Stack™ is designed to reduce the effects of wind and weather on the burning scent stick and can increase burn duration by up to 50% depending on conditions.

What is the Smoke Stack™?

The First Wind™ Smoke Stack™ is a reusable, mobile scent deployment system. It protects the burning scent stick, reduces the effects of wind and weather, can increase burn duration, and allows hunters to deploy scent away from their stand or blind and closer to where they want animals to encounter it.

How many scent sticks should I use during a hunt?

One stick can be effective. We commonly use one attractant and one cover scent during deer and elk hunts. Additional deployment sites can be used depending on wind, terrain, hunting strategy, and field conditions.

Where should I place my scent?

Sexual attractants such as Rut and Estrous should generally be deployed away from your stand or blind and within your anticipated field of fire, near a decoy, travel corridor, scrape line, or another strategic location. Cover scents can be used along your entry route and near your hunting position.

What scent should I use during the pre-rut?

We typically begin with Rut and Cover scents and introduce Estrous as rutting activity increases. Animal activity and timing vary by region, so adjust your scent strategy to local conditions.

Can I use multiple scents together?

Yes. Multiple scent profiles and deployment sites can be used together as part of the Get Winded™ System.

Can partially burned sticks be reused?

Yes. Completely extinguish the stick after use and save the remaining portion for another hunt. Keep unused and partially burned sticks sealed when stored.

Are First Wind™ scents natural or synthetic?

Get Winded™ Scent Sticks use synthetic scent formulations designed around natural scent profiles. They do not contain natural animal urine or other natural animal-derived scent liquids.

Are the scent sticks CWD safe?

Get Winded™ Scent Sticks contain no natural deer or elk urine or other natural cervid-derived scent liquids. Hunters should always check current state and provincial regulations regarding the use of hunting scents.

Are scent sticks waterproof?

No. Wind, rain, and snow can affect an exposed burning stick. The Smoke Stack™ is designed to provide additional protection from wind and weather while allowing the scent smoke to disperse.

How should scent sticks be stored?

Keep unused sticks sealed in their original packaging and store them in a cool, dry location. The sticks are fragile, so protect them from bending or breaking.

Can scent sticks be used around clothing and hunting gear?

Use caution around clothing and equipment. The scent may transfer to nearby materials, and the burning ember can damage or melt clothing and gear if it comes into direct contact.

Can the Smoke Stack™ be used with a decoy?

Yes. Decoy deployment is one of the intended uses of the Smoke Stack™. Position the system so the scent source complements your decoy setup and wind direction.

Can I use the Smoke Stack™ from a tree stand or blind?

Yes, in the trees on a drop line with carabiner, hung on the GW ground mount coming soon.

What species are First Wind™ products designed for?

The initial Get Winded™ lineup includes scent profiles for deer, elk, black bear, and predators. Additional species and scent profiles are under development.

How many sticks are in each package?

Each Get Winded™ Scent Stick package contains six scent sticks.

Can I mix and match scents in a bundle?

Yes. Eligible First Wind™ bundles allow hunters to select different scent profiles based on species, season, and hunting strategy.

How long will unopened scent sticks last?

Keep unopened sticks sealed in a cool, dry location. We are confirming specific recommended shelf-life guidance with our manufacturer and will update this information when finalized.

Are replacement scent sticks sold separately?

Yes. Get Winded™ Scent Sticks are sold separately in six-packs, so the reusable Smoke Stack™ can be used throughout the season and across multiple hunts.

Is the Smoke Stack™ a one-time purchase?

The Smoke Stack™ is reusable. Replace the scent sticks as needed and continue using the Smoke Stack™ throughout the season.

Do I still need to pay attention to the wind?

Absolutely. The Get Winded™ System isn't designed to eliminate the wind—it is designed to help you use it strategically. Wind direction, terrain, animal movement, entry routes, and deployment location should all be considered when setting up.

Are there additional safety considerations when using predator or bear scents?

Yes. Exercise additional caution when using attractant scents around bears, mountain lions, wolves, coyotes, or other predators. Consider the location of the scent source relative to yourself, other hunters, trails, camps, and occupied areas. Never place bear bait scent directly at your stand or blind.
